With a final snap kick the last of the putties went down and vanished. What had Rita been trying to keep her from? She had been heading this way to explore and... and to work on her fear of heights. She figured if she started out where she knew she was high up, but could only just see the cliff face, and then slowly work her way each day a little closer to the edge...
Her friends had gotten hurt because of her fear. She was a power ranger, she would master her fear. She had to. She had managed to overcome it for a moment here and there when the need was great. But that was like beating putties. It always came back, usually at an inconvenient time. She needed to be rid of this fear. Once and for all.
She didn't think anyone was around, so there was no harm to staying morphed. Besides, she was confronting her fear to be a better Ranger... so... So if she had to justify it, that was her justification. The fact that the armor helped make her braver... She would deal with that in time. For now she would take the safety offered. Learning to overcome a fear was like learning a new skill. Small steps.
She may have been a bit too focused on the fear as she walked, and on overcoming it, and missed that there was someone nearby.
nah it's great <3 let me know if something is wrong with this
Kim spent a lot of time hiking trails, through the woods or up by the mines where she and her friends- it was still a little strange thinking of them as friends- had found the power coins. She'd never even kept track of what classes she had with Trini, and Jason got notice only because of football and even that slipped off her radar. She'd never even given the time of day to geeks like Billy, a regret now that she knew how kind he was and how hopeful. And Zack just wasn't at school enough.
She looked up and spotted a sheer climb, remembering how the last time she'd climbed much had been the day after they had all woken up without memory of getting home. Which prompted her to climb the surface without much thought, smile on her face, and up to the next part of the trail, moving along it casually after.
Until she spots someone in similar yellow armor. That was confusing. Her coin was in her pocket and it suddenly felt heavier. Logically, she knew it wasn't, but her attention was hyper-focused on this person and her coin.
Trini heard the call and turned back. A girl, about their age. No sense she was like Scorpina or any of Rita's goons. For one thing, she didn't attack. But keeping her secret identity was going to be hard if this was someone from Angel Grove High that she simply didn't know. It was a large school, and her responsibilities as a Power Ranger had been taking up a lot of her time, recently.
Still, she was used to people seeing the Rangers as heroes, so the swear word and the implied accusation in the question was odd. Given the putti patrol had been here, she better investigate. She headed back down the trail towards the other girl, head tilting inquisitively, hoping to avoid speaking if at all possible. She wasn't sure how muffled her voice would be through the helmet to someone who wasn't a ranger.
"This area is off limits, and your costume is all messed up. No belt and there were no- what are those, fangs? Nothing like that was on any of those heroes. Plus the chest diamond looked more like a galaxy." Kim for super hero costume critic 2k17.
Overall though, it was pretty close to Trini's armor. Pretty close. There were tons of youtube videos now of the rangers fight against the putties and Goldar though, of the red ranger running and saving Jason's dad. Kids were drawing them everywhere. There wasn't exactly hard to find a good source.
"What... are you talking about?" So much for not speaking. She walked a little closer, fighting the urge to cross her arms. Was she... critiquing her morph? That would be an issue to take up with Zordon, but apparently this was some odd fan, so someone who would never meet Zordon.... But still. This was... odd.
"You've got the basic look down but that looks only kind of like the yellow ranger. Also, they didn't have guns. There are tons of youtube videos you can watch. I mean, all of Angel Grove was watching."
She could take it up with Zordon, if she wasn't thinking along the same lines. That this was some kind of fan. He gave them rules though, not revealing themselves or using their powers for personal gain. It had been pretty clear-cut, and she doesn't want to find out what will happen if any of them break those rules. Besides an extended visit to the pit, she felt sure it would include that.
And she hated the pit. Explaining her bruises wasn't easy, and just made her seem more deviant in her parents eyes.
"I assure you I very much am the Yellow ranger. And there is nothing wrong with my blaster. Look, you probably should head on home, there were some putties here earlier. I'm not sure what they wanted, but this isn't a safe place to be playing tourist right now."
It was hard to believe what she was hearing. Someone looking out for her? And with regards to putties? She spent over a week training daily against putty holograms, they weren't anything to her team now.
And her look towards this "imposter" reflects that, the teen crossing her arms.
"Tourist? Yeah, no. I hike these trails all the time. And you're definitely not." Although if putties were around, maybe she should check on the ship. It seemed to mostly react according to the power coins holders but better safe than sorry. "Besides, I'm not afraid of a few stone-headed freaks."
Stone-headed? Clay at worst. But that was hardly the point. "Well this is not a good day for a hike, regardless. I'm going to do a patrol. So head on home, and stay safe. And don't worry, the Power Rangers are here." That... sounded like a Jason thing, right? She knew there was a reason she usually didn't speak as a Ranger.....
this is the newer one, I logged into the wrong one before lol
"Head home, right." She paused for a moment, glancing up to where the ravine the ship was under could be found. "Not happening. I have business here. And really don't need anyone worrying about me. I'm not worried, you shouldn't be either."
Maybe she'd let her friends worry but not some stranger acting like she was Trini. Sure, be a fan, but she wasn't going to let someone tell her how to do something or where to go. She never let anyone really boss her around.
She sighed a bit. "Then I'll stay with you and keep you safe until you are ready to leave." She couldn't, and wouldn't, leave someone in danger. Even if they did irritate her some. She was all but itching to get back to Zordon. And she wished Kim and Jason were there, or Zack. They were all better at talking to strangers than she was. She and Billy tended to hang back more. She was always more confident talking to her friends, or in front of a group, than one on one to a stranger.
Oh jeez. She was never going to get to the ship with someone following her. Although, if she were particularly cruel, she could jump into the ravine and swim down to the cave, let her think Kim had drowned.
That was too cruel though and just as quickly as the thought came, she was mentally berating herself. The old Kim might have played tricks like that, the queen bee cheerleader but now? Really, her life was only kind of her own, she didn't want to cause more panic than Rita or Goldar had.
"You really don't have to bother. I can protect myself. I've been up here hundreds of times already, with my friends and alone."
"But never with Puttis on the loose, I'm sure. It is my duty as a Ranger to keep the people of Angel's Grove safe, as well as any visitors. I will see you to where you are going, and then back again. Then I will contact the other Rangers to make sure the area is secure. I promise you, ma'am, you will be safe."
Jason. Why couldn't this have happened to Jason? Or Kim. Kim might have had fun with this.
From Billy's perspective, it was a fairly standard southern California day. It was sunny and pleasant, the winds were calm, and it was therefore a perfect day to conduct his experiment. He'd ordinarily call Trini or Zack for a hand with this one, but he wanted it to be a surprise.
Here in the outdoors, where it was much easier to clean up any mess, he poured his batter and pressed the button, eventually producing a very lopsided donut and a lot of smoke. It still smelled sweet, but that charred lumpy look was not attractive.
"I'm not sure even a dog would eat this," he grumbled, tossing it at the nearest trash can. He missed, of course, instead almost hitting someone---
"Ah! I, uh...profusely apologize for my terrible aim," he rushed out as he raced to retrieve his failure, hoping the stranger wouldn't snap.
Kim's thoughts were mostly focused on how strange, and by strange she meant different, Angel Grove was. So she was suitably distracted, trying to get a signal on her phone to call her friends, when the burnt donut just went past her face. And surprised her enough that she let a 'damn' escape and almost dropped her phone.
She could not ruin another phone again so soon.
"Whoa, hey!" At least her was apologizing? Kim brushed a hand through her hair, taking a breath in through her nose. "Careful. Could'a been a kid or something."
"True," Billy muttered, rubbing his arm. Even though he'd made progress, he was still painfully awkward around most new people. "But then I'd be facing down an angry parent---kids don't roam the park alone, not with the constant attacks."
He sighed. "I didn't hurt anything of yours, did I?"
"Maybe but I know plenty of kids who don't listen and go where ever they want." And constant? It hadn't seemed constant to her. Okay, putties reanimating were a pain but it wasn't constant. Just enough that they were having trouble catching up on school work.
That was definitely inconvenient but that was the worst of it, in her opinion.
"Nah, I'm good. No blood spilled." She held up her phone to evidence nothing hurt or broken.
"Good, we've had far too much pain this week already," he breathed, relieved.
"If anything's going to happen here, it's usually around this time of the afternoon...but I really don't think these horrible donuts are putty bait," he grumbled, tossing another in the garbage. That shot didn't miss.
"Putty bait? Do those stone headed freaks even eat?" And, perhaps by sheer luck, both of their Angel Groves seemed to have been having some trouble.
"Pretty sure we could outrun them or find cover or something if we had to though. They're not exactly the fastest, right?" And her friends would find out, the team would get out this way, take care of them, easy. On a lighter note though, she does smile a bit. "I'm no chef or anything, but maybe less time for it?"
Billy snorted. "You're right on both counts, this s extremely overcooked and I've yet to observe one eating, but Jason tells me they do drive...and ah, this heat regulator is clearly, as they say, 'busted'."
He closed it with a sigh. "I think we'll be all right, but it'll still be better to get out of the open. Which way were you headed?"
Jason was a common enough name that she didn't give much thought to it. It was a little freaky though, imagining a putty driving. She'd have to keep an eye out. They had enough trouble with putties on the ground.
"A heat regulator, is that something you can just buy a new one of? Because this seems pretty cool. Especially after Krispy Kreme bit the big one."
Maybe she didn't frequent it but it was still nice to kill an afternoon there. Especially after detention, really made things bearable.
"I was heading to get a coffee. Something from home just isn't enough."
Billy had to smile again. He wasn't all too familiar with Krispy Kreme, but had to guess it was some type of donut shop. Donuts and coffee certainly sounded appealing right about then.
"More that I can dig one out of my garage. And my favorite coffee shop is right across from the juice bar. I frequent it when I need something stronger than a smoothie, but I know better than to tell my friends," he admitted with a sly look. "Was that the place?"
"S'good, at least. Hope the other one works then." Okay, the juice bar wasn't familiar, and one sleek eyebrow goes up. It bothered her a little. She'd lived here most of her life and somewhere not being familiar, even just the name, bothered her.
"Actually, I don't even recognize the juice bar. I didn't even realize we had something like that, you'd think the girls from cheerleading would have mentioned it once." Before she'd quit.
"You're likely from one of our rival schools? The juice bar is Angel Grove High's main after-school hangout, and my friend Kimberly used to be on the cheer team. I'd think she would've introduced you at some point..."
He shook his head. "And to think I finally knew this town."
"I definitely go to Angel Grove, I just live out by the mine. And I don't remember any other Kim's on the cheer team, just me." This was weird. Really weird. And she suddenly started thinking about everyone on the team, their names, and no. No other Kimberly.
"I didn't fall and hit my head or something, did I?" She reached up, gently prodding the back of her hand and finding nothing tender or bloody.
I can edit if this isn't okay?

Looks good. Sorry I only have one morphed icon.

want to call it a world mashup?

Basically bits of both? Sure.

That'll be interesting!
