Billy. In detention. The thought was almost too much for her to accept. Jason, in detention? That was almost as hard. Oh, it happened... once in a very rare while, and usually due to a Power Ranger emergency that led to a missed class, or something Bulk and Skull had done. But it was still hard to accept that she said it so... so casually. As if it was a common occurrence.
"Detention? Billy and Jason? Zordon was right, this is some weird sort of other reality."
Still, she was sure they could learn something from these counterparts of theirs. And they needed to work together.
She hated to ask. But... she had to. "Tommy?" Was he on their side, in this odd other world, or was he still an enemy? Of all people, Kim would be the one to ask. Her, or Jason.
If only she knew all the details, details Kim wasn't planning on handing out just because they're the same people. Sort of. It was still kind of funny though. Billy was a good kid, not someone who would have intersected her social circle before she had screwed up. Then again, the coins had seemed meant for them, she probably would have met him anyway.
"It's not that weird but yeah, we're all in detention now. We're there every Saturday until we graduate."
Which sucked. At least it gave her an excuse to quit cheerleading now though.
"Who's Tommy?" Wait. "The teacher on Saturday was calling for a Tommy Oliver? Never met him though, must have been skipping. Great start. Really."
Trini turned to Zordon. "Will Tommy's powers hold? If he's the only one of us who doesn't match, who doesn't have another Ranger of his colour, maybe he's what we need."
"An interesting theory, Trini. I do not know if his powers will hold."
Trini nodded. "We'll have to hope so." She didn't doubt that Tommy would want to help. Not for a second. The others would just have to do as much as they could first, so he didn't use up what power he had left fighting puttis. She turned to Kim. "Zordon will contact your Zordon," that felt so weird to say. "We should talk to the rest of your team." And her own... but she had no clue how to even start that conversation. Kim, Pink Ranger meet Kim Pink Ranger? Maybe Billy would have some ideas. She knew Alpha would be calling him as soon as they left. If not sooner.
"Your Tommy is probably going to be on his own. We have no other power coins. The only other one was Rita's and she stubbornly believed she was still worthy when we slapped her into space. The only way to get that one is if it falls back to Earth and even then, no idea where the hell it will land."
Alright so, she could kind of handle her team. And her Zordon and Alpha. She didn't particularly want to, this one seemed to have gotten the better attitude between universes.
"Back to the mine then. I wasn't kidding when I said our ship is underground."
"Rita held our Tommy's Power Coin at first too. She made a evil Ranger to fight against us. But we were able to break the spell. We can find where she hid the coin, somehow." Probably. Maybe. Could... could it restore Tommy's powers?
No. They had a Tommy on her world, she said as much. They just hadn't met him yet. She wouldn't take from anyone the chance to be a Power Ranger. They'd find another way to help Tommy. She was sure of it.
"We can teleport, right?" Trini asked, a little hopefully.
"Yeah, but she didn't hide it. It was her coin, she wasn't giving it up. The only chance we have of finding the thing is with space travel and our ship is under sixty-five million years worth of rock. It's not going anywhere."
Which is unfortunate but at the same time, they're a bunch of teenagers. They shouldn't have that kind of responsibility. The whole protecting the world things was already a bit much.
"No, we don't have anything like that. Relax though, it's like high diving. We dive right into the water and then swim down to the cave. Easy."
"But that means she was planning to use it," Trini said. "I wouldn't count Rita out just yet, though I wish we could. If she lands on another world, there is a chance Billy could rig something up so that we could teleport that far. We've had to go to other worlds before, but thankfully not often."
"Like... high diving..." she asked a bit weakly. She could tag out, right? Ask one of the others to do this while she stays and helps Billy?
No. No, she was a Power Ranger, and she couldn't keep letting her fear of heights stop her.
"How... how hard could it be?" she asked weakly, putting her helmet back on so her fear would be less obvious.
"She was using it." This was confusing, they should know right? Or did they somehow diverge that much reality-wise. Billy would be proud of her. Maybe.
"Rita was the green ranger." She glanced to Trini and around the command center. The right at the other Zordon. "She used to be on your team."
She wasn't going to give it to some kid on the planet she's trying to destroy, not when she was convinced she was worthy of it still. And the armor- if that could have even been called armor, it looks more like thorns than ranger armor- was close enough. Almost. So she was still connected to the morphin grid. Kind of.
"Relax. I won't let you die or anything. We do it every time we visit the ship."
"Rita?" she gasped. "A Ranger? Not a chance. Ever. She gave the green coin to Tommy, to make a Dark Ranger to fight against us." She looked to Zordon. "Rita has never been and will never be a Ranger, right?"
"Trini, I understand what you are attempting to do, but the team needs you. You can push aside your fears, I believe in you."
She deflated a bit, then put her helmet back on. "I can get us back to the... to the cliff." She swallowed hard.
"Where I come from, she was. And there's no getting around that." Luckily, even if they were misfits, the group she was with now were just good kids who got into trouble. She couldn't see any of them getting ideas in their heads to destroy Earth.
It was at least becoming clear to Kim what the problem was here but she kept her mouth shut. It reminded her though that none of her team seemed to have this issue. Though she was wondering how Billy was doing since Rita.
"Seriously, relax. You're psyching yourself out at this point which will only make it harder. Like when I was in cheerleading, the first time we did a pyramid? Terrifying but I didn't think about it and trusted my team, never got hurt and realized 'whoa, this is pretty cool' and the fear went away."
She nodded a bit. "I know we need to do this. I'll be okay." Terrified, but she won't let it stop her. "That was why I was up there in the first place. To work on it so it wouldn't be a problem for the others."
"If you're sure." She wasn't going to argue. Never mind that she was sometimes the first person to argue, this was more important right now.
"Maybe... think about a favorite song or something while we're there." She wasn't sure what other advice she could give. In her formal social circle, she didn't know any of them to be afraid of much. The same applied now, with the rangers. Real friends.
Again, there was a bit of hesitation. This teleporting this was weird but since she didn't know where she was, she couldn't exactly walk out and make her way back on foot. And trying would probably lead to mild criticism about how anyone kept this a secret when there was just a building in the desert.
Hey, if Trini has to do heights, you can handle a little bit of teleportation and suspend a little disbelief. She waited, arm out. Then changed position, and offered her hand instead. This... wasn't some stranger. It was some alternate version of one of her two best friends. She even offered a smile that was lost inside the helmet. But she knew Kim would sense it anyway, perhaps this one would too.
She glanced down at the hand then at Trini's face, pausing and then nodding and taking her hand, letting her link to the Morphin Grid materialize her armor around herself. There. Now it would just be two rangers in the quarry, nothing too strange.
Okay... odd way to morph, but she closed her hand over the other Ranger's hand and nodded to Alpha who teleported them back to where they had started. She took a deep breath.
It seemed normal to Kim. Or, at least as normal as having an alien coin and access to super strength and armor could be. This was a new normal, she was getting used to it. That was probably the better explanation. Not normal but she'd adjusted.
"Just up this way." She started to lead the way, not sure if she had the ability to climb the way Kim's team seems to be able to do, so she took her along the path through the mine to the chasm. Then came to a stop.
"Down here. Don't sweat it, there's water at the bottom, nothing is sticking out. Just a swim and we can walk through the cavern to the ship." She'd try to warn about the weirdness that was the cave being under the water but that was better seen than anything else.
She took a breath and went with her. She didn't let go of the other Ranger's hand unless she was asked to, as she went with her. She really wished Billy was there. But she'd do her best.
She looked down over the edge, and her hand tightened for just a moment as she swallowed hard, pale under her helmet. Didn't matter that was water down below. Water from enough of a height as as hard as concrete, and she wasn't sure how much her armor would protect her.
She almost, almost said 'dead serious but caught herself quickly enough. That would probably have made matters so much worse. Instead, the visor of her helmet retracts, showing her face and a faint smile.
"Sorry to say, I am. I'll go first and yell up to you. I can even unmorph, if it will make you feel better. This is how we always got back and forth, and we did it unmorphed at first, until we learned how to access the Morphin Grid." And even then, they tried not to morph before coming up here. None of them wanted the ship found. Sure, Alpha could probably fend off Angel Grove police but they'd probably call in the army or something.
Okay, the helmet missing a peice was just odd. She made herself let go of the other girl's hand. "No, you don't have to..." she said weakly.
If they were from other universes, were the rules different? Would what was fine for them kill her? Or was it the place that decided the change in physics. Billy would either know... or spend the next ten hours trying to figure it out...
The rules could be different. Their armor was different, and their Zordon's and Alpha's. The thought did cross Kim's mind, so she nodded and let her hand be released.
"I've got an idea then. Hold onto me. I'll break our landing in the water. My armor is tough, and so am I. We trained against putties without armor when we started." Her visor flicks back down, a faint grin visible before her face is covered again, and she holds her arms out.
"We sometimes fight them without armor too," she said, but... she appreciated and understood the gesture. She walked over and put her arms around the other Ranger, letting her pick her up if that was her plan, hugging her awkwardly if it wasn't.
Awkward or not, Kim wrapped one arm around her, making sure she was ready and then threw herself, and Trini, backwards into the chasm and down into the water, the pink ranger making sure she was the one that hit, and then letting the other go.
She clung, eyes wide under her helmet, as she tried very hard not to scream. Or pass out. She managed the first. The second was a near thing. She gasped when she was left to tread water on her own. Not trusting her voice she nodded. It was shaky, but it was a nod.
May I link this on plurk to show my friend who plays Billy?
